@PolymeshNetwork • October 25, 2024 - Polymesh Testnet has now been updated to 7.0, which is the next major release of Polymesh.
This major release includes breaking changes for both the Polymesh chain API and associated tooling (SDK, REST API, SubQuery) which those integrating with the chain should be aware of.

FEATURE OVERVIEW
Asset ID
Polymesh no longer requires each asset to have a unique ticker. Instead, each asset is assigned a unique AssetID when created. A unique ticker can optionally be linked to the AssetId during creation or any time thereafter. This change impacts storage and APIs, as AssetID will now uniquely identify assets instead of tickers.
Staking
A more recent upstream version of the Staking pallet brings efficiency improvements and some modifications to the election process. Tokenomics and inflation are unaffected.
Keys
Optimized storage of secondary keys and their associated permissions improves the efficiency of these lookups for extrinsics.
MultiSig
The MultiSig implementation has been updated to simplify the association between MultiSigs and their Identities. It now provides flexibility in specifying which key pays for MultiSig signer transactions and consolidates the behavior of MultiSig keys with other keys.
Venue ID
Settlements in Polymesh no longer require a Venue ID, simplifying peer-to-peer transactions that don't go through an exchange or matching venue. The Mainnet update is scheduled for November 19th, 2024.
POLYMESH SUBQUERY V16
Polymesh SubQuery v16.1 is now available and includes several important updates to align with the upcoming Polymesh v7 release. These changes involve breaking modifications to settlement-related entities, such as removing certain fields and restructuring the Venue and Instruction entities. Assets are now primarily identified by an AssetId rather than a ticker, which may affect API calls.

Note that a full resynchronization of SubQuery instances is required for v16.1. We encourage all teams to ensure compatibility before the v7 chain upgrade. For teams hosting their own SubQuery instances, we offer a SubQuery dictionary to accelerate resynchronization. Please get in touch with support@polymesh.network if interested in using it.
DUAL VERSION POLYMESH SDK
To facilitate a smooth chain upgrade for Polymesh users, we've released a dual version of the Polymesh SDK. This version is compatible with both the current v6 and the upcoming v7 (post-upgrade) allowing applications to be updated before the network update.

This SDK release introduces several breaking changes. If you're upgrading from a version prior to v25, be sure to review the breaking changes from previous releases as well.
We urge all teams integrated with Polymesh to review these updates and update dependencies accordingly. The main breaking changes include:
-asset.ticker has been marked as deprecated and will no longer return a ticker for v7 chains. Instead, the ticker (if present) is available in the results of asset.details.
-asset.id is now the primary unique identifier for an asset.
-Multiple type changes due to tickers and venues becoming optional.
Except for querying the ticker, code changes should be minimal if you're not using the new features like AssetId and simply want to maintain compatibility with Polymesh v7.
