Overview
CHR is an ERC20 token. However, when the Chromia mainnet is launched, there will be a transition from an ERC20 token to a native one. It serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, like transaction fees and gas fees for interacting with dApps.

- If you've used our QuestNet activities or MVP Mainnet, you've interacted with our Ethereum Interoperability Framework (EIF) without knowing it. What is EIF, why did we build it, and what does it do? Let's break it down!
Compatibility vs. Interoperability: Not the same!
- Compatibility: Different products within the same system working together (e.g., iOS apps on various iPhone models).
- Interoperability: Different systems connecting and exchanging info (e.g., blockchain networks sharing data).
What's the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)?
The EVM is a decentralized computing environment executing code across Ethereum nodes, crucial for running smart contracts.
EVM's widespread use has made it a standard, allowing similar functionalities across various blockchains.
EVM Compatibility: Ethereum, Binance Chain, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, etc., all use EVM.
This enables:
- Easy switching between chains
- Use of the same '0x' address across networks
- Simplified porting of dApps
However, EVM compatibility also limits innovation and customization since it builds on existing architecture.
#Chromia's unique architecture:
- Relational Blockchain: Uses a relational data model for better querying and indexing
- New Economic Model: Dapp deployers lease network containers, allowing interaction without transaction fees
- Modular Framework: Interconnected chains handling specific functions/dapps
Chromia needs mechanisms to interact with Ethereum and other EVM-based chains. Enter: Ethereum Interoperability Framework (EIF).
How EIF is utilized:
- Asset Bridging: Supports secure transfer of assets like $CHR tokens between Chromia and EVM chains
- Linked Addresses: Cryptographic techniques link Chromia addresses with EVM chain counterparts
- Metamask Signing: Users sign transactions and interact with Chromia dapps using existing Ethereum wallets
- Sending Data: Transfer arbitrary data and events, including transaction details and price info
Future applications of EIF may include:
- Additional FT4 Assets: Expanding bridge support for more assets
- Layers for EVM-based NFTs: Cross-chain image and metadata storage
- NFT Bridging: Migrating EVM-based NFTs to Chromia
- EVM Companion Dapps: Using EVM chain events to power gas-free transactions
EIF is a key part of Chromia’s strategy to connect its unique blockchain architecture with the broader crypto ecosystem.
By leveraging EIF, we aim to:
- Enhance asset interoperability
- Streamline user interactions
- Pave the way for future cross-chain innovations
As the Chromia ecosystem grows, EIF will play an important role in exploring new possibilities and expanding interoperability.
